Walter L. Morris Jr. is a lifelong Arkansan with deep roots in the Delta community of Helena. Born and raised there, he developed an early appreciation for hard work, community, and the outdoors—values that have shaped both his personal and professional life.

Walter earned a degree in banking and finance from the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Shortly after graduating, he returned to Helena to join his family’s business, H&M Lumber Company, a retail home-improvement center affiliated with Ace Hardware. For nearly four decades, Walter helped establish the company as a trusted local source for building supplies and home-improvement products. He remained with the business until it was sold in 2020.

Faith, family, and community service have always been central to Walter’s life. In 2005, he and his family moved to Moon Lake, just across the river in Mississippi. He remains an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Rotary Club of Helena, reflecting his longstanding commitment to civic involvement. Walter also serves on the boards of the Helena Museum of Phillips County and the Maple Hill Cemetery Association, helping preserve the region’s history and heritage.

Walter and his wife, Jayne, are the parents of Trey Morris and Mary Cole and the grandparents of Mae Louise Morris, Bennett Cole, and Henry Cole. In his free time, Walter enjoys a variety of outdoor pursuits and embraces the Delta’s natural beauty and traditions.
