Walter L. Morris, Jr. is a lifelong Arkansan whose roots run deep in the Delta community of Helena. Born and raised in Helena, he developed an early appreciation for hard work, community values, and the outdoors. These principles have shaped both his personal and professional life.

Walter earned his degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Arkansas, where he was also a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Shortly after graduation, he returned home to join the family business, H&M Lumber Company, a retail home center affiliated with Ace Hardware. Over nearly four decades, Walter helped guide the company as a trusted local resource for building supplies and home improvement needs. He remained with the business until its successful sale in 2020.

Faith, family, and community service have always been central to Walter’s life. In 2005, the Morrises moved to Moon Lake just across the river in Mississippi. He remains an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Rotary Club of Helena, reflecting his longstanding commitment to civic involvement. He also serves on the boards of the Helena Museum of Phillips County and the Maple Hill Cemetery Association, helping preserve the region’s history and heritage.

Walter and his wife, Jayne, are proud parents to Trey Morris and Mary Cole, and even prouder grandparents to Mae Louise Morris, Bennett Cole, and Henry Cole. In his free time, Walter enjoys all outdoor sports and embraces the natural beauty and traditions of Arkansas life.
